The 5th Annual Conference of the American Sociological Association Section on the Sociology of Development 

 This is a time of critical re-thinking about the nature and meaning of Development. To address the questions of what is development, what or who is to be developed and why, Cornell University (in conjunction with the ASA Section on the Sociology of Development) is hosting a conference on “Development in Question”, to be held October 6-8 2016 on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York, USA. This site gives information on the conference themes, program and venue (including transport and lodging options). Please check back frequently as more useful information will be added in the lead up to the conference.

Keynote plenaries announced!

The conference will feature keynote plenaries with academics, activists and development practitioners from around the world debating key questions on development. Please see the conference program for more details on plenaries and speakers. 

​Planning to attend the conference?

Please see the Conference Venue page for travel and accommodations info for Ithaca, NY.  If you would like to attend the conference but are not registered as a presenter or panel chair, please fill out the registration form as soon as possible. 

​Call for papers is closed

Everyone who submitted an abstract by the deadline (February 15th 2016) should have received an email announcing whether there paper was selected for presentation. Please email the organizers if you did not receive this notification. ​
